i've only been to minneapolis on business, so i didn't really get to experience the city, but i've heard nothing except how incredibly beautiful it is. makela recently had the opportunity to spend a long weekend there and by the sounds of it, she had a blast!
i'll let her take it from here.
xo,
gaye.
over the summer i had the chance to make a couple trips to minneapolis to visit a friend. in all honesty, it has never been on my travel bucket list but each time it really blew me away. i've been lucky enough to go at the perfect time of year and between the beautiful lakes, good food, fun bars and friendly locals--i would go back in a heartbeat.
i will admit, we did not get out enough to really explore the entire city. we stayed in the uptown/lyndale area with a short trip downtown but it definitely kept us entertained. below are some of my recommendations for your next trip to "the north."
eat:
giordano's: now i know it is a chain and it originated in chicago, but this deep dish pizza is a must-have. the food coma is well worth it.
world street kitchen: a brick & mortar that was built from the popularity of their food truck--featuring flavors from around the world. whether you are a carnivore or a vegetarian there is something for everyone.
milkjam creamery: don't let the line wrapped around the block intimidate you--once you get a scoop, it will all be worth it!
drink:
up-down: if bars easily bore you, this is the place for you. they have a wide assortment of arcade games, life-size jenga and connect four + over 60 beers on tap!
vicinity coffee: a casual coffee joint that even in the summer makes you want to grab your favorite book and cozy up in one of their comfy chairs. i recommend trying the "bahn" - espresso, house-made vanilla, and cinnamon.
truce: of course this l.a. girl had to find her local juice bar. their 100% organic fresh pressed juice and yummy snacks are perfect after spending the morning up in the air.
play:
rent or borrow a bike to take a ride along one of the many lakes in the city. we rode around lake calhoun, lake harriett and lake of isles; each one had a spectacular view of downtown or some jaw-dropping lake front homes.
spa sweet: if you find yourself wanting to relax or needing some last minute pampering, head to spa sweet for a quick mini-facial or massage. they also offer a kai body scrub treatment that will leave your skin smooth and hydrated--perfect as we head into the dry, winter months!
u.s. bank stadium: this was definitely the highlight of the trip as we got to see the vikings beat out the packers in their first home game of the season! if you're a diehard football fan or newbie (like myself) you have to figure out a way to head to a game. one of the most beautiful and exciting stadiums, by far.
looking forward to exploring the city even more.
xo,
makela.
